Emily is waiting to hear back from the website's host. It's unfortunate that this happened on a Friday afternoon so she might not hear anything until Monday. I could be wrong but I'm assuming it will be the same deal as when the papaers were stolen earlier this year because of an article. Since the school effectively subsidizes the paper's existence (I would love for it to be fully supported by donations and ads), it will be up to the school to press charges if it comes to that.

We have some alums who are great tech people and they should be able to at least get a geographic area of where the attack began after contacting the host. I'm still impressed at what they were able to decipher so far.

It appears that the site is paid for through Michelle Reed so, although CLOG is responsible for the content, it's technically a school website. That's the best I can do for now. I live over 200 miles away from all the action.

Wow! No e-mail in or out for the Captain's Log Editor or reporters. Last I checked, tampering with private computers was a criminal offense.

Someone needs to find out who, exactly owns the CLOG. If it's not owned by CNU, then criminal charges need to be filed with the FBI and or the Secret Service (I believe the latter oversees wire tampering, but I may be wrong).

If the CLOG is owned by CNU, then the university attorney needs to explain why criminal charges have NOT been filed. Otherwise, I will assume the worst.

I'm not listing any contact info because I'm afraid of university retaliation in case other sites are hacked or otherwise compromised.

I agree. So much of this would not have been an issue if the administration didn't regard the CLOG as a threat at all times. This easily could have been a story of how the quick actions of campus and Newport News police protected students from an alleged meth lab and say there will be zero tolerance for that. I would want to see that as a parent sending my child to college. Instead, that story has been hidden and now this is yet another statewide fiasco involving the suppression of student media.

Even if this is not published, it needs to be said. As a faculty member, I personally witnessed a Dean facing a re-accreditation team and an Assistant Dean remove the CLOG before the team's campus visit and put the CLOG in the dumpster.

Why not require Tribble -as a remedy- to give a copy of the CLOG to all visiting perspective students and parents as well as to all accreditation teams in the future?

That would force him to act in deeds instead of just with hollow words.
